About Me
Dementia and Your Loved One

I've been a caretaker of an elderly woman with dementia for over two years. I've seen the effects of this mental affliction, and how devastating it can be to loved ones. This is why I am a firm believer in seeking a professional diagnosis, so the patient may receive necessary care and treatment. Once diagnosed at the onset of symptoms, a plan can be devised. Through social interaction and daily care, my charge has achieved a higher quality of life. If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, you can make a difference. Love will find a way.

3 Reasons To Consider An Assisted Living Facility

Vickie Armstrong

Everyone must age and grow old at some point. Although you may have always anticipated this happening, when the time actually approaches it may come as a surprise. Many people wonder if it is time to consider an assisted living facility for their own comfort and safety. The question is when is it the right time? Here are some things that can help you know if it is the right time for you to consider moving into an assisted living facility.

Do You Have A Hard Time Doing The Most Basic Tasks Throughout The Day?

As you get older you might notice that something as simple as preparing a meal has become a major nuisance. Going to the bathroom may be uncomfortable and difficult, it could even take twice the time that it used to take because it is difficult to get back and forth to the bathroom. You might even have a hard time getting dressed so you stay in your pajamas all day or sleep in your clothes. If you are dealing with any of these things you need to consider assisted living.

You don't want to go hungry because you are unable to make good meals, or let your health suffer because it is too hard to bathe and care for yourself. An assisted living facility can provide you with meals, assistance when using the restroom and dressing yourself and so forth.

Are You Forgetting Things Throughout The Day?

Another sign that you might be ready for assisted living is that you are forgetting simple things throughout the day. For example, perhaps you were using the stove to heat up a can of soup and forgot to turn it off. You might have forgotten to lock the doors at night and a variety of other things. Although it may seem like a simple mistake at the beginning, it could become dangerous and compromise your safety. This is why you should consider more help when you start to forget things.

Are You Scared Of Being Alone?

It is not uncommon for people to be frightened of being alone as they age. You might be worried that you will fall and no one will be there to help or you might be worried that if someone breaks into your house that you have no way to protect yourself and so forth. There is no reason for you to live in fear. Consider going to a facility that can help care for your safety.

These are just a couple reasons to consider an assisted living facility. Contact your local assisted living community to learn more.
