Dementia and Your Loved One
About Me
Dementia and Your Loved One

I've been a caretaker of an elderly woman with dementia for over two years. I've seen the effects of this mental affliction, and how devastating it can be to loved ones. This is why I am a firm believer in seeking a professional diagnosis, so the patient may receive necessary care and treatment. Once diagnosed at the onset of symptoms, a plan can be devised. Through social interaction and daily care, my charge has achieved a higher quality of life. If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, you can make a difference. Love will find a way.

Great Reasons For Visiting The Audiologist

Vickie Armstrong

It's important to learn about self-care and how to make sure you are properly caring for your health in all areas. Something that can sneak up on a person is hearing issues. Your hearing can slowly get worse as time goes on. Instead of recognizing that you are having a harder time hearing, you may just slowly change things to accommodate the loss and this further masks the issues. Plus, since hearing loss can happen slowly, it may just not be noticeable to you on any level. This is why it's important to make sure you occasionally go to the audiologist for a hearing test. This way, if you do need hearing aids then you will know and you will get them. Here are some benefits you may get out of getting hearing aids:

Be safer

Not hearing what is going on around you as you should hear can put you in many dangerous situations. One example is you may not hear a car coming when you are crossing a parking lot or street. You may also not hear someone yelling a warning at you if you are headed for a dangerous situation. You can even miss out on hearing things like a dog or a person running up behind you that may be a threat to your safety.

Be quieter

The more you lose your hearing, the louder of volume you will put things on around your house. You can eventually end up with your TV on a very high setting, your phone set to a high setting, your alarm clock set higher, and more. These things make it so you can hear the things better, but it can also really bother those who live with you because they can find that the noises that your items make are making it hard for them to hear their own items, make it hard for them to concentrate, make it hard for them to sleep, and just make everyday life more frustrating for them. Once you get hearing aids put in, you will be able to lower the volume on many of these things which those in your household will appreciate.

Enjoy the company of others more

When you have a hard time hearing, you will have a hard time hearing what other people say. Not only can this make it hard to take care of regular errands when you can't hear who you are talking to well. But, you will also have a hard time when visiting with friends and family members. You may do a lot of pretending you hear them because you get tired of asking them to repeat themselves. Once you have hearing aids, you will enjoy talking with people more.
