About Me
Dementia and Your Loved One

I've been a caretaker of an elderly woman with dementia for over two years. I've seen the effects of this mental affliction, and how devastating it can be to loved ones. This is why I am a firm believer in seeking a professional diagnosis, so the patient may receive necessary care and treatment. Once diagnosed at the onset of symptoms, a plan can be devised. Through social interaction and daily care, my charge has achieved a higher quality of life. If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, you can make a difference. Love will find a way.

Road Trip? Tips For Keeping Your Body From Hurting When You Arrive At Your Destination

Vickie Armstrong

If you have a vacation coming up, you may be excited about it, but you may be dreading it at the same time. One reason you may be dreading it is due to the long car ride. Many people tend to always arrive with a sore back or stiff body from the ride. It is not good for your body to sit in one position in a vehicle for hours and hours. This is why it is recommended by chiropractors to take certain steps to care for your body on long trips. Here are a few things you can do to help ensure you arrive at your destination in good shape.

Take Breaks

While you probably want to get to your destination as quickly as possible, it is important that you take breaks along the way. Getting out of the car so you can walk around and stretch will help keep your muscles flexible. In addition, it will ensure you do not get as tired.

Support Your Back

When you get into your vehicle and as you are driving, you want to ensure that your lower back is as close as possible to the seat. This will help give your back the support it needs as you are driving. If you need additional support, though, you can use a lumbar roll or roll up a t-shirt and place it between the seat and your lower back.

Recline the Seat Slightly

You should ensure that the recline of your seat is slightly more than 90 degrees. This particular position will apply the least amount of pressure on the back while driving, and it will ensure that your head and neck are in proper alignment.

Stay Hydrated

You may not believe it, but staying hydrated is an easy and effective way to maintain a healthy body while on a road trip. Sufficient hydration will assist your body in fighting off pain and stiffness while also ensuring the joints remain lubricated, which is necessary to minimize muscle cramps. Proper hydration is also key in your recovery once you reach your final destination.

While you can follow the aforementioned tips and many more, you may still find yourself in pain once you reach your destination and get out of the vehicle. The same is true when you return home. If this is the case, do not hesitate to contact a local chiropractor for an adjustment.
