About Me
Dementia and Your Loved One

I've been a caretaker of an elderly woman with dementia for over two years. I've seen the effects of this mental affliction, and how devastating it can be to loved ones. This is why I am a firm believer in seeking a professional diagnosis, so the patient may receive necessary care and treatment. Once diagnosed at the onset of symptoms, a plan can be devised. Through social interaction and daily care, my charge has achieved a higher quality of life. If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, you can make a difference. Love will find a way.

STD Testing And Treatment Steps

Vickie Armstrong

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are two sexually transmitted diseases that are caused by an overgrowth of bacteria. These diseases may exhibit no symptoms. There are occurrences when these diseases can include painful stomach cramps, discomfort during sexual intercourse, and an abnormal discharge. Treatment begins with an STD test and guidance from a medical practitioner.

Where To Get Tested

Receiving an STD test can be part of your routine medical care or can be conducted during an emergency medical treatment. Your primary physician, a medical provider of a health center, or an on-campus medical office may offer STD testing and treatments. Some care facilities may offer low-cost or no-cost testing and treatments.

A primary caregiver who works in a private medical office may charge a flat fee for testing and treatments. All of the STD services that you receive will be conducted within a private setting. The status of a test and your treatment regimen will be kept confidential and will only be discussed between you and the medical practitioner who renders the services.

How A Test Is Performed And The Treatment

A urine or swab test will be used to detect many sexually transmitted diseases. Both of these procedures are quick and noninvasive. If you test positive, your medical practitioner may prescribe an antibiotic. An oral antibiotic will need to be taken for a set amount of days. Upon completing the medication, the medical provider may advise you to be tested for the sexually transmitted disease again. The secondary test will ensure that the disease is no longer present.

How To Handle Personal Responsibilities

While you are being treated for a sexually transmitted disease, you should refrain from having sexual intercourse. This includes abstaining from oral sex practices. If you have a partner who you have been intimate with lately, you should reveal your STD positive status to them. There is a chance that your partner has also been infected with the same disease.

Because an STD could interfere with fertility or cause some other serious health issues, you should tell your partner about your status as soon as you receive a positive test result. Your partner can visit the same establishment as you did for the testing and treatment processes.

They can also visit another medical doctor who they are familiar with. Providing your partner with written literature about the disease and the testing and treatment processes will prepare them for their upcoming medical appointment.
