About Me
Dementia and Your Loved One

I've been a caretaker of an elderly woman with dementia for over two years. I've seen the effects of this mental affliction, and how devastating it can be to loved ones. This is why I am a firm believer in seeking a professional diagnosis, so the patient may receive necessary care and treatment. Once diagnosed at the onset of symptoms, a plan can be devised. Through social interaction and daily care, my charge has achieved a higher quality of life. If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, you can make a difference. Love will find a way.

How To Recover From Penile Implant Surgery

Vickie Armstrong

Erectile dysfunction is something that many men suffer from. Fortunately, if you have erectile dysfunction, you can have penile implant surgery to help correct the problem.

If your doctor has recommended that you have surgery, you may be wondering what you can expect after the surgery. Your recovery is extremely important and if it has been worrying you, here are some tips that will help you get through it.

Cold and Heat Packs

Immediately after your surgery, you are going to notice that there is some swelling and pain. To help alleviate the discomfort, you can use cold and heat packs.

Your doctor will usually recommend that you switch between these two types of packs for up to three days. After three days of ice packs, your doctor may tell you to use heat packs to further reduce the swelling.

Avoid Exercise

Strenuous exercise should be avoided at all costs as this can have a negative impact on your healing. The one form of exercise that your doctor will probably allow you to do is walking.

This is because walking will get your blood circulating and help you to heal. However other forms of activities such as aerobic exercise will be completely off-limits for a few weeks.

Personal Hygiene

You will not be able to shower for a few days after your surgery as this will get the incisions wet. You will also not be able to soak in a bathtub or any kind of hot tub for a few weeks.

You can however use a washcloth that is damp to clean yourself for the first few days. Try to use the softest washcloth possible so that it does not cause irritation.

You will also need to change the dressing at least once per day. Your doctor will tell you how long you should continue changing the dressing for. As things begin to heal, you will need to do this less and less.
