About Me
Dementia and Your Loved One

I've been a caretaker of an elderly woman with dementia for over two years. I've seen the effects of this mental affliction, and how devastating it can be to loved ones. This is why I am a firm believer in seeking a professional diagnosis, so the patient may receive necessary care and treatment. Once diagnosed at the onset of symptoms, a plan can be devised. Through social interaction and daily care, my charge has achieved a higher quality of life. If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, you can make a difference. Love will find a way.

"Everyday" Issues Acupuncture Can Help Manage

Vickie Armstrong

Most people think of acupuncture as a treatment to have when dealing with a specific illness or injury. Indeed, acupuncture can be wonderful for stimulating healing from serious ailments. But it can also be a helpful treatment for generally healthy people dealing with "everyday" struggles. Here are a few "everyday" issues acupuncture can help you deal with.

Menstrual Cramps

Menstrual cramps can be due to an underlying condition like endometriosis or PCOS, but if you've ruled this out, your cramps may just be your body's "normal." That does not mean you have to suffer through them without treatment or relief. Acupuncture can be wonderful for managing menstrual cramps. When the needles are placed in your skin, they trigger the release of endorphins, which are natural hormones that make you feel good. These endorphins help relax the muscles to put an end to the cramping. They can also reduce your stress levels, which can make cramps less bothersome and intense. Many women benefit from having an acupuncture treatment either the day before or the first day of their menstrual period.

Sore Muscles

Are your muscles sore from working out, or perhaps from working on your feet all day? Stretching, relaxing, and taking some time off can help, but sometimes you need a little extra treatment. Acupuncture can help ease muscle soreness. The needles cause the muscles to relax, which allows them to receive more blood flow. The additional blood carries more nutrients and oxygen to the muscles, which is often what they need to heal. Acupuncture, as mentioned above, also stimulates endorphin release. Those endorphins can ease muscle soreness in the short term, so you should feel better as soon as you walk out of your acupuncture session.

Fatigue

If you are often feeling fatigued and exhausted, it is important to see a doctor to rule out possibilities like a nutrient deficiency or cancer. Once you've done that, see an acupuncturist. By relieving muscle tension and relaxing your nerves, acupuncture can ease fatigue. When your body is no longer focused on tensing up, managing excessive nerve impulses, and the like, it can actually re-energize itself. You should feel a little more energy after the first appointment, and you'll feel better a few days later after you've had a few nights of good sleep.

Acupuncture is an excellent remedy for a lot of everyday aches and pains. Schedule an appointment, and see how it goes. You really have nothing to lose.
