About Me
Dementia and Your Loved One

I've been a caretaker of an elderly woman with dementia for over two years. I've seen the effects of this mental affliction, and how devastating it can be to loved ones. This is why I am a firm believer in seeking a professional diagnosis, so the patient may receive necessary care and treatment. Once diagnosed at the onset of symptoms, a plan can be devised. Through social interaction and daily care, my charge has achieved a higher quality of life. If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, you can make a difference. Love will find a way.

Spider Vein Treatments Are Done By Injections Or Lasers And May Require Weeks To See Results

Spider veins are common on the legs, but you can get them on your chest, hands, ankles, and elsewhere. While they may not be a medical issue, you might be embarrassed by your spider veins, especially if you have several of them.

Spider veins are usually capillaries that are close to the surface of your skin. Your circulation isn't dependent upon them, so they can be removed. Other capillaries will handle the blood flow without causing you any problems. Here's a look at spider vein treatments your doctor might recommend.

Sclerotherapy Is Done By Injection

Sclerotherapy is a common way to eliminate spider veins. This involves injecting foam or liquid into a spider vein to irritate it and cause scars to form. When that happens, the vein dies and is absorbed by your body over time.

You could need multiple visits to the vein center spaced weeks apart to have all of your spider veins treated. Since the damaged veins have to be absorbed by your body, it could take a few months for all traces of the veins to disappear. The procedure itself isn't painful, but you may have a little discomfort when the needle is injected even though the needle is tiny.

Recovery instructions vary according to where your treated veins are located. If on your legs, your doctor may want you to wear compression stockings while you recover. You may also need to avoid hot baths, running, saunas, and weight lifting for a few days.

Lasers Are Sometimes Used On Spider Veins

Laser treatments may be used alone or along with sclerotherapy to eliminate spider veins. Lasers work best on small capillaries that are close to the surface of your skin. Lasers work by targeting the blood cells and heating them up so the capillary is destroyed. Like sclerotherapy, the spider veins have to be slowly absorbed by your body, so it might take several weeks to see results.

You might need multiple treatments with a laser to eliminate all of your spider veins. You might feel stinging when the laser is triggered and the doctor might apply ice to reduce the heat on your skin. Lasers are more likely to be used on your face rather than on your legs. Your doctor has to determine which spider vein treatment is right for you.

Since the treatments take time to get the full results, you'll want to schedule your treatments well in advance if you want your spider veins gone before summer or a vacation.
